I used to run an amusement/comedy/crap from the internet website biggaybear.co.uk in the early 2000s (http://web.archive.org if you want to snoop) it’s basically what all the million and one ‘comedy’ sites do now, just harvest links for distribution.
Back then it was all manual work, and whilst biggaybear got ‘popular’ it didn’t do as well as it could have done, what with it basically looking and sounding like a gay porn site, this issue was compounded in 2002 when I put men kissing on the front page as a clickthru, I found it hilarious at the time*
*I still do.
